Revell 1/72 Jumkers JU88 A4/D1

This is the review of the Revell Junkers Ju 88A4/D1, a sixties designed model kit...

The JunkersJU 88 was a twin engine multi-role aircraft. It was meant to be a fast bomber, too fast for the existing fighters to intercept, but soon demonstrated to be as effective on other roles, from dive bombing, to heavy fighter.

This is Revell JU88 A4/D1, but from the older mould. It's been a reboxing since the sixties, but pay attention that there is a newer one, which has nothing to do with this model kit.

For its age, its not that bad. It has raised panel lines and rivets. The engine has a fairly acceptable amount of detail, and can be seen, landing gear its not that bad…

About the cockpit, its too rough, simple and innacurate…

But with some ammount of work you can do a good thing out of it. The only problem is that it is wasted time… perhaps because being to thick, old, or low polished mould, you cannot see anything of the inside… It can actually be frustrating, because even if transparent, you cant see the inside!

One thing it is missing, as this is meant to be the dive bomber version, it’s the airbrakes…

but with some patience, you can scratch build it without too much effort…

Decals are not bad, but tend to react with my matt clear coat.

As a final remark, if you are looking for a model to do a crash scene, or a big repair, this one is perfect because you have the engines visible. Due to its clear windows, I would say that unless you replace them, or get a really old model, from the eighties, it is better to go for the new mould. Nevertheless, this can be a funny experience.
